Let's Run With it - Issue #24 I've dropped the ball

Hi Reader

Today, I want to be open and share that I feel quite disappointed in myself for allowing this newsletter to fall by the wayside.

However, I believe it's important to acknowledge these feelings and use them as motivation to move forward. Life often gets in the way, and we all have moments where we fall short of our own expectations. But each day presents a new opportunity to start fresh and recommit to the things that matter to us.

The goal of this newsletter has always been to provide awareness about running and fitness, assisting you to keep moving forward.

With my one-on-one clients I’m often talking about how consistency, showing up and taking imperfect action are key ingredients to making sustainable change and getting results.

I’ve really dropped the ball on that one.

Today I’m showing up and sharing with you. I’M RESTARTING!

Let’s talk about restarting, starting or restarting comes with a lot of feeling, the first is often I’ve got to start all over again.

Restarting isn’t the same as starting from the beginning.

Repeat after me “You are not starting right back at the beginning”.

Common feeling can be:

  • failure, you weren’t able to continue: I encourage you to look at the reason why you stopped. Possibly you were over committed, did you need to proactively schedule time. This has been the change I’ve made creating a specific time in my calendar for newsletter writing.
  • worrying it’s going to be harder this time around: every new habit activity does require conscious effort at the start. You could use a tracking app, calendar or download my 28 day consistency tracker (this is good for habit tracking). Give habit stacking a go, do the particular activity after an existing activity eg on a Saturday get dress in your running clothes (takes away needing to get changed).
  • needing to allocate time towards your activity, yes to succeed you’re going to need to set time aside. It might mean re-allocating time from something else. You must get clear on what is important to you.
  • worry what other people will think of you for starting again. Does their opinion of what you do really matter?

This is a sign you needed. Today is the time to restart that part of your health and fitness that you’ve dropped the ball on.

To start from where you are right now here’s two suggestions.

  1. Start small and be realistic with how much time you can actually allocate to your activity and be flexible.
  2. Share what you’re doing with a friend or family member to create additional accountability.

Remember today is the best time to start.

Thank you for your continued and support. Your encouragement means the world to me, and I am committed to making this newsletter a source of knowledge and inspiration to help you along your health and fitness journey.
